Phrases

A phrase is simply a combination of motives or the development of a motive that creates a portion of a melody. These are usually the things that stick in your head, whether you want them to or not. You can liken these to sentences in a paragraph.
These contain the ideas.

If you listen to my tune you may hear the difference between a motive and a phrase. Look below and I’ll show you.

MOTIF / MOTIVE: short, to the point, could be repeated throughout easily and transposed or elaborated upon

PHRASE: much longer, contains an entire idea unto itself and possibly leads to another idea or phrase.
