Guitar Reviews

Okay here's the deal. There are a million guitar learning products out there. So where do we start. Well, I think that depends on what we want to accomplish.

Learn Acoustic or Fingerstyle Guitar

If you are primarily interested in acoustic and/or fingerstyle guitar ... well just stay here. I believe this site addresses the most important aspects of playing acoustic and fingertsyle guitar for beginner, intermediate and some advanced issues are tackled as well.

Learn Basic Guitar / Basic Guitar Lessons

These below are the top picks and the most popular. All are good. I obviously prefer Learn and Master Guitar for beginners. But you really can't go wrong with the other 2 either, depending on what you want in a program and how you learn. I give my 2 cents worth anyway.

Learn and Master Guitar

  • 10 professionally developed, full-length DVDs that include more than 20 hours of lessons with 2 camera views
  • full jam-along CD includes 99 high-quality full band tracks to play with
  • 200 page of printed course instructional material
  • optional 12 issue subscription to video newsletter

This is for you if you want...

  • Fundamentals
  • Thorough foundation
  • Tools with which to build upon
  • Product in hand, not online
  • Step by Step approach
  • Beginner to intermediate
  • An industry standard product with lots of customer approval

My opinion: the best out there for beginners and intermediate looking for strong foundation.

Lead Guitar Secrets

  • 4 professionally developed, full-length DVDs that include more than 7 hours of lessons (170 video segments) 2 camera views too
  • 5 full jam-along cds includes 110 tracks to play with
  • 100+ pages of printed course instructional material
  • LOTS of web based support and learning material including a members' forum
  • Optional monthly video newsletter

This is for you if you want...

  • Fundamental lead guitar techniques and exercise plan
  • Thorough foundation in developing attributes (finger stretching and dexterity type attributes)
  • Solid foundation in scale building and making relationships for lead guitar
  • Product in hand, not online
  • Step by Step approach and customizable practice to implement in your style
  • Beginner to advanced
  • An up-and-coming favorite of a lot of people. (Dan puts out a great product)

My opinion: if you know chord basics and are looking for something to develop your hands physically with less theory, this is for you. Not as good for complete understanding of guitar but the best out there for lead guitar.

Speed Learning Guitar

Access to 5 full membership sites created by Chris Elmore plus other bonuses:

  • Guitar Tips
  • Guitar Songs
  • Guitar Leads
  • Guitar Backing Tracks
  • Guitar Theory
  • Guitar Effects Software

This is for you if you want...

  • The best look and feel of the 3 products.
  • Everything you get with the other 2 products above but you have to be online to access it.
  • Foundation in theory and dexterity.
  • Modular, as opposed to systematic, learning approach.
  • Beginner to intermediate

My opinion: This is the best looking and user friendly of all of the products. Modular, meaning you approach learning by topic as opposed to a system. Depending on how you learn, maybe not bad. But I prefer a systematic, building approach. I think you get a deeper understanding through building on previous concepts. But this is a popular product and if you learn by bits of info at a time, then this is for you.
